Resumen
La incertidumbre y desconfianza que despertaban los médicos diplomados en la ciudad de México durante el gobierno de Porfirio Díaz (1877-1911), llevó a que médicos y Estado consideraran esencial vigorizar una imagen respetable y competente de su labor profesional. Este ensayo analiza algunas de las estrategias a las que se recurrió para legitimar la actuación de los médicos en la sociedad capitalina. La hipótesis central es que la escritura de la historia de la medicina nacional y de sus figuras más destacadas, fue un elemento esencial para el logro de tal fin.

The uncertainty and mistrust that the medical profession stirred in México City during the Porfirio Díaz government (1877-1911), led medical practitioners and the State to consider that it was essential to strengthen a respectable and competent image of the profession. This article examines some of the strategies employed to legitímate the presence of medical men in society. The central hypothesis of this work is that the writing of the history of national medicine, and of its most prominent figures, became an essential element to obtain that.
